about

"San Diego-based Spencer Lytle returns to his Zyxt moniker (the last word in the online Oxford English Dictionary) on these five pieces of fractal electronics. Also known as Portland and Datascraper, the IDM-aficionado continues to extract every morsel of sound from his machinery. Whether they’re crunchy industrial slabs (“(d)ENT,” and “Chelsea’s 3 Friends”) or deconstructed glitch veils (“Manuel Expression (md mix)”), it’s within these microscopic rhythms and fractured beat patches Zyxt hones in on that has us interested. The brittle bits and blips of “Milky Apologise 4” to the closing synth growl of “Orange,” which we’d like to hear more of, allows Athenaeum—perhaps the artists’ take on an experimental electronic institution—to be grounded and well suited for general purpose audio work. More in this range of sound-scraping, please!"
